British-Iranian singer/songwriter Hoda Mohajerani delivers with „Arrivals" a deeply personal, at times auto biographical, debut album. Poetic, rocky protest ballads smuggle Hoda's experiences between worlds.
Each song is a lyrically rich journey and arrival. Recounted are stories of love, identity, memory, experience. The protest is personal: Imprinted by a childhood in Iran, political escape, a life in exile and the discovery of a poetic-humanistic personality belonging wholly to her.
The journey begins in poetry - an inextricable component of her life, coloured by her childhood home and her father, a priest and professor - a mouthpiece for her emotions, angst and hope. The melodies bestow each of Hoda's poems with a new and important dimension to create a distinct realm of sound.
The songs rock, headstrong and unique – like her life – her way is the destination. On the road you encounter Pink Floyd, make a pit-stop by Patti Smith, drink tea with The Gun Club, arriving once more and unmistakeably, to Hoda Mohajerani.
